The importance of good nutrition during pregnancy!!

Being pregnant again after the first one is really something that we’re looking forward to. This time around, the feeling is all mixed up since we went through quite a difficult pregnancy last time. Despite celebrating the joy of being pregnant again, scared and nervous are the two feeling that accompanied hubby and I most of the time.

Soon after we discovered about the pregnancy (yup, it was unplanned but most welcomed in all angle!), I straight away consumed folic acid and started taking milk. During the 6^th weeks++, we went to the same old gynea that was handling Rayyan Ariff’s case for check up and consultation, so I took the opportunity to ask him about the milk that I’m taking. He’s not too keen with the milk product as he claimed that the sugar in the milk can caused unnecessary weight gain. Mind you, I’m on the big side of the scale so weight is definitely a major concern!

Having to hear that, I stopped taking the milk and was only relying on all the supplement pills. Then, I was introduced to Mamil Mama by a friend through a function.. Earlier today, I was talking to a good friend of mine about breastfeeding. She just delivered a baby boy 3 months ago and she’s really into breastfeeding. In fact, she’s really serious in supporting me to breastfeed Baby RA.. InsyaAllah, I will try my best.

This particular friend was telling me about the benefits of breast milk and how studies had shown that babies that were given breast milk perform better academically and have higher IQs compared to formulated-fed babies. This is due to the fact that breast milk has very high DHA that can helps in brain development.

With Rayyan Ariff, I only managed to breastfeed him directly twice when he was in NICU. During the 45 days period he was in NICU, I continuously expressed every 3 hours to maintain my milk production but the expressed milk were not given to him based on his doctor’s advice. When he was discharged from NICU, he rejected expressed breast milk and also, breastfeeding because he has been introduced with formula milk since he was a few days old.

Not wanting to let him drop his weight which may cause lots of complication on him, I gave in to him and feed him with formula. But of course, I tried my very best to choose for the right formula so that the nutrient that he’s getting would be able to substitute with what he has lost. If not 100%, at least something that is very similar to what he has lost for not taking breast milk.

Considering his brain condition, DHA level is also something that I really focused on. It has always been my priority in considering formula milk for Rayyan Ariff. Now, Rayyan Ariff is taking Mamil Gold and I’m so happy with the fact that it contains 5X DHA!! 5 times is a big number OKKK!! :-)

Okie Mommies, roughly most of you here knew how much we have to put emphasis on Rayyan Ariff’s health issue because with just one fever that may be just a normal fever to other children, can lead to big things for him like having fits and infections.

When he starts schooling, we have to deal with fever almost every month which give ways to fits and seizures every now and then. I guess, when it comes to choosing the right milk brand for our children, all mommies have their own checklist to tick. So do I! Before this, besides DHA levels in Rayyan Ariff’s milk, I was also concerned with his slow weight gaining issues and opted for something that can help him in that area. But it doesn’t settle his problem in total as he was still facing the same problem. On top of that, he always gets sick pretty easily. Due to this, I know that I need to make some amendments on the checklist and find a milk brand that is ‘strong’ enough to protect him.

It has been almost a month since I gave Mamil Gold to Rayyan Ariff. Believe it or not, so far Tuan Kecik ni tak demam or selsema pun lagi. Alhamdulillah.. *Hope it continues this way lah kan*

At first, I think that it could be because he has been consuming his Vitamin C consistently, sebab tu tak demam.
